I began acting at the mere age of 5 in community theater. I landed the role as Gretl in The Sound of Music, and I knew that’s where I fit. 42 performances, and I loved everything about it. From the lights, to the sound of the audience applauding at the end of the performance, to the fun I had just rehearsing on a random weekday evening, I was smitten by the “Theater Bug.”

 

My parents recognized this was something I loved and so I enrolled in acting classes and vocal lessons. This love of theater allowed me to perform in several roles throughout elementary, middle school, high school, and then college. I majored in theater at The George Washington University and went on to get my master’s in childhood education and advanced certificate in school administration. I have been a theater teacher in the public school system for over 12 years and have taught everything from kindergarten through high school.

 

One day while conducting a lesson on improvisation with my high school students, I was hit with a lightning bolt of inspiration. In this particular improv class, I could see the learning, teamwork, creativity, outside of the box thinking, and just PURE JOY these students were having. I realized there are a million acting studios for kids to practice their theatrical skills outside of school, but there wasn’t the same opportunity for improv. 

 

I created Off the Script Improv to give kids a chance to put down their phones, connect with one another, and HAVE FUN. Our improv classes are an opportunity for kids of all ages to not only play but learn life skills that will prepare them for any challenge they face. I am excited to help kids find their voice, trust their instincts, and shine both on stage and in life… and guess what? There is NOTHING out there like this!
